Default what is a non stress test pregnancy?

im 36 weeks and my baby's size is a problem. she's measuring almost 3 weeks behind on some of her body parts. and she's only 5 lbs and the amniotic fluid is really low. So they are sending me to get a non stress test. What is this? She said a stress test is when they monitor contractions and thats not the test im having. So what does a non stress test do? Thanks

My NSTs involved fetal heartrate monitor, contraction monitor and a button I pushed when I felt a kick.

You have to monitor the baby's activity. Every time the baby moves, you press the button. It will record the movement. They say not to worry about the hiccups. I had it the last five months of my second pregnancy- twice a week for about 2 hours. Good Luck.
