I think I don't feel depressed but I feel anxious sometimes. My doctor gave me a prescripcion for depression when I said I feel anxiety.

According to what a psychiatrist told me, depression and anxiety come together. The reason is that they both are triggered by the same part of the brain (the amygdala). That's why doctors usually prescribe antidepressants for anxiety. An anti-anxiety medication only offers temporary (a few hours) relief from anxiety.

Yes, there is a difference between the two, however, psychiatrists are finding more and more that anxiety is often accompanied by depression.

I Imagine your doctor prescribed you Paxil or some med along these lines. These are typically prescribed for ant-depression, but have also been found to be very helpful in treating anxiety as well.

More than likely your doctor wants to try this med out first because it is non-habit forming and less intense than bezodiazapines(valium, xanax, Klonpin etc..)

Do you experience anxiety attacks?

How severe is your anxiety?

If so you may need to resort to tranqulizers, but for the time being follow your doctor's suggestions and see how it goes.

Good Luck

Both anxiety and depression are frequently treated in the same manner, which may explain why the two disorders are so often confused. Antidepressant medication is often used for anxiety, while behavioral therapy frequently helps people overcome both conditions.

there is a difference but if your feeling either of them they have very similar effects on you. i suffer from depression but i do sometimes just feel ancious. if your not happy having the anti-depressonts then talk to your doctor and he can talk to you about why he thinks you need them. if you want to talk about it then email me - english_rose.1994@yahoo.co.uk
