Default Is my severe social anxiety disorder enough to get me my own dorm?

I have social anxiety disorder
With my therapist and medication, I have been working to overcome it and have made EXCELLENT progress
I am now friendly and outgoing with people, but there is one exception
I can't LIVE with strangers or people I don't know well.
It's important for me to have my own private place away from everyone where I feel I won't be under the microscope for a little while
I'm going to college in the fall and am PETRIFIED of having a roomate
I won't be able to focus on school because I will be to busy trying to schedule my day around when my roomate will be gone
At night I will worry about my sleepwalking, night terrors, even how I look when I am asleep
This is a horrible disorder that I have improved a lot in, but this is one area that I'm sure I cannot overcome
Is this reason enough to get my own room?

not sure it will, but it could..especially with sleepwalking and night terrors.. maybe try to get assistance for your own apartment.

Yes! You can easily get a note from your therapist/doctor and talk to the school Adviser and the Resident of Housing and they can make an exception for you. One of my friends said she wanted a dorm to herself because she has had issues with sharing and after and they let her. It took a semester for it to go through but she had no medical condition she was just a brat lol

With proof of your anxiety and the severity of it, they have NO CHOICE but to provide you with your own place. Talk to someone at your school, thats the first step.

Good luck and I hope everything works out for you
and also, congrats on your progress! )

It shouldn't be that difficult to get a singl room, if they are available at your university, if not, I don't see why you wouldn't have the option for a "buy-out" of the space that a roommate would have in a double room. If you can pay for it, you can buy all the privacy you want, and I understand the way you are feeling, I had a roommate for one semester, and it was very uncomfortable for me - on top of that, she did all she could to get me upset enough to move out so she could have the space to herself, not a good situation. I told her off, and she decided to move her things into the main area, and I had the bedroom to myself. It was awkward, and uncomfortable, but it turns out that we were both people who needed private space. My guess is that you wouldn't want it made public knowledge that you're sturggling with anxiety, so trying to use an anxiety disorder as a reason for a single room isn't an option. There is no need to worry, you CAN have your space!
