Aspirin will not stop a heart attack in progress, but it probably doesn't hurt to take one, as long as you also seek medical attention at the same time. This is very important! This is how people die from heart attacks! They brush it off as no big deal & don't get the medical help they need right away. If you aren't sure, just remember that it's better to be safe than sorry! If you want the aspirin to get into your system faster, crushed will be faster than capsule, coated, or uncoated. However, either way, it will not work fast enough to prevent a heart attack if you're already having the heart attack! At the hospital, they can give you nitroglycerin which they can put under your tongue & let it dissolve and be absorbed through your mouth. It works fast & is effective. Afterwards they might give you high-dose aspirin or some other drug to prevent any more heart attacks immediately after. And once you're stabilized, your regular doctor might prescribe a baby aspirin, which I think is in the range of 71-82 mg. This would be a drug that you take every day to help decrease the risk of heart attacks. It is preventative but not curative, if that makes any sense. It helps prevent future heart attacks, but if you're already having a heart attack it's too late for aspirin to take effect & you would be better off seeking medical attention & getting that nitroglycerin in your system.
