If you start a regular exercise program (with your doctor's advice), don't try and tackle 12 flights at first. Try 2 for a couple weeks, then 4, then 8, then 12...and always monitor your pulse. Make sure you're not overexerting your energy. If you feel any irregular symptoms, immediately pull back on the number of stairs you're trying. Again, all the specs about risks and what-not can be answered by your doc.
