Default Question about cats itching and and going bald?

I have an appointment for Wednesday for my cat. I've noticed him scratching a lot more lately. he has a small bald spot on top of his head about half the size of a dime. that is what prompted me to immediatly call the the vet. just now I saw him scratching under his chin for about 30 seconds streight. I got him and looked at that spot and it has patches where it had been bleeding. this area is bigger than what is on top of his head.

Any idea on what could be going on?

I know it isn't fleas, I've checked both my cats over for fleas and they are indoor only cats, though I'm not nieave enough to think that that will keep them from ever getting them since I could bring them in on me from elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure it isn't stress, nothing has changed in the last 6 months or more and he has feline herpes so if he was stressed out he would get a flare up.

Does anyone have any ideas to help me have an idea of what's going on so I can be well informed for the vet visit
Could it still be ringworm if the skin is white just where he has scratched himself so much that he has bled is what is red? the bald spot on his head the skin is white.
He has been eating the same food for the past year and a half. out of the same bowl (I wash the bowls every week same as I have always done)

can cats suddenly deveop an allergy to a food? I feed my cats natural choice complete care indoor weight management dry food and as a treat once a week meow mix market select cup or pouch that I split between my two cats.

Cats can also develop thyroid problems that can cause them to lose clumps of hair and go 'bald' in certain areas. I don't know, however, if this can cause itching. Keep your vet appointment. Luckily, if it is a thyroid problem, it should be treatable with meds. Good luck!!

Do his ears look dirty inside? If so it could be ear mites. My kitten I adopted from the pound had them so bad he had scratched all the fur off his his ears and neck. It might also be some kind of dermatitis. The vet will know for sure. Hope he gets better soon!

It sounds like fleas to me.
My grandmother has an indoor cat and her cat has fleas. The cat stands at the window and feral cats come up to the window to look at her and I guess the fleas can squeeze through the cracks.
But, your vet should be able to figure it out for sure.

Could be a food allergy.
Corn and wheat cause itchy skin.

Cats get a form of acne that itches.

Cats with flea allergies will have a big reaction to one flea.

A vet will give you a treatment for the acne, consider flea treatment just in case, and switch food.
Innova, California Natural, Wellness, Felidae, and Artemis are the best.
Also, serve it in a metal or paper bowl. Plastic and ceramic can make the acne worse, I don't know why.

It could be an allergy or it could be ringworm. Ringworm is a very contagious fungus that is transmitted to other pets and to their human family members, too. Can you isolate him until you see the vet? Wash well after touching him.
