As a teenager for about six months I used to used to regularly dab peroxide on my hair until my stepdad put a stop to it by asking the truth and then gasping "oh my God", and telling me I'd be completely bald by the age of Thirty. He said he once knew a woman with whispy hair all over her head. (You could see her scalp), who once was a knock out blonde, but one day she put peroxide on it and then sat out in the sun, and it all fell out by the end of the day....
That never happened to me, because (maybe) I wasn't sitting out in the sun, I usually dabbed it after taking a shower and before I went to bed, but it scared the crap out of me to the point I took better care of my hair, stopped shampooing every day, and watched what shampoos did use, scalp massages etc.etc. i suggest you do the same.
It is not so much the shaft of hair that it damages but the follicle, the root.
If acid or alkali are not thoroughly washed off within a certain time frame, they will shorten the life of the root, so finally one day, maybe years or decades later, when the last hair of that root falls out it won't grow back, because that follicle is finally dead.

you can not damage the follicle with low volume peroxide...You can get a bad perm and melt your hair.....You can always ask a hairdresser if something is safe and you will get an honest answer...Playing with hair color usually results in bad hair color...peroxide that you find in your bathroom may lighten your hair a bit but it is not going to harm your scalp
