Default My dog has scabs on his belly and is losing hair?

My sheltie is about 7-8 yearsold & hes had this problem for a long while now.On his belly he has these yellow scabs and its on his sides too.Hes starting to lose hair on hes belly but its not really that hes shedding its kinda like it never grew.I can tell its itchy because he scratches it and it also has an odor.I think my groomer told my dad that it might have something to do with his liver &I know the best thing to do is to take him to the vet but my parents say they don't have enough money&I cant afford it either. My dog is losing hair on his tail & these scabs are starting to grow near one of his ears 2,& if this makes a difference he is pretty overweight and I feel like such a horrible owner.I REALLY DO LOVE HIM and if there is just some possible way to make him feel better besides going to the vet please help me.Of course I want to take him to the vet but I have high doubts that my parents will change their minds. PLEASE HELP ME, ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT EVEN TO HELP THE ITCHING.

If you cannot afford to go to the vet, try asking at your local shelter for ideas. Some local shelters offer vet assistance and may even know a vet that can provide cheaper services to you. try a bath with oatmeal in it to soothe the dog until you can take him in (just enough raw oats to make the water look milky - have him rest in the water for about 5 minutes and rinse, but do not use shampoo). You absolutely must seek care, though, through some means. If the shelter won't help, go to Planned Pethood (www.plannedpethood.org).

You need to go to the vet ASAP!!!! This sounds like it could be sarcoptic mange/scabies which is very very contagious even to you.

You HAVE TO GO TO THE VET- that is the only way of getting rid of it. Your dog can die from this if the sores become infected.

If you truly love him- take him the vet. You should not have a pet if you can't afford to take care of him. Vet's will work with their patients on payment. Please take him to the vet.
