Default Can you lose your job b/c of your hair color/style???

I just got my hair done, all blond on top & dark brown under neath. My boss said I have to talk to him about my job & my new hair style b/c he does not like it. I think that he is going to try to get me to change it or treaten me with my job, CAN HE DO THAT??? If he can not then I WILL NOT CHANGE it back. I am a grown woman & don't feel the need to have permission to color my hair.

it is not pink, blue or any other crazy color. It is not sticking up like a mowhawk or anything crazy like that. He is just old school & does not like the change.
there is nothing in the policy about hairstyles. We don't even have a handbook

Unless you are covered by a contract, you can be discharged at any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all.
If he thinks your hair style is a distraction, that is sufficient reason.

Yes.

Remember that having a job is nothing more than an agreement between you and your employer.

If there is a company policy in place and you were aware of it prior to being hired, like, for eg, if it's in the company manual. Also, most states are at will employment states which means employment can be terminated at any time for any reason, of chourse, there are discrimination laws in place, but companies can have policys reguarding employees hair styles. The National Labor Relations Board is the place to contact for employer issues. You could always try to start a union.

yes, most likely you can be fired for your hair, unless you are black or some other minority and you can argue that your hair is tied to your ethnicity.
